The processing support carries at least one processing head (12) having a plasma cutting nozzle (13). Near the processing place at least one suction opening is arranged, connected to a suction unit. The suction opening (17) is arranged at the processing support (5) via the plasma cutting nozzle (13). The processing support (5) is movable by means of hand levers (6, 9), and at least one of the hand levers has a dead-man's switch (27, 28) at its handle (25, 26). The workpiece contact and bearing surfaces of the workpiece clamping unit (3) are electrically insulated and by means of at least one spring contact (52, 52'), contacts the clamped workpiece (1). The processing support (5) is movable by means of hand levers. One of the hand levers is connected to a multi-step switch (51) which connects the workpiece voltage in a first switching step and in certain cases the suction, and in a second step the current for the plasma cutting operation. USE/ADVANTAGE - Type development so that processing forces reacting on processing support are so small that very lightly constructed machine can be selected, and feed drive requires only comparatively small power.
