The cylindrical tube (1) encloses a float chamber (3) around a coaxial pipe (6) on which an end stop (8) limits the descent of the plastic float (5) as the liquid level (4) falls. The narrow stem (11) of the float (5) is terminated with an annular flange (13) through which bores (18) connect the space (17) surrounding the stem (11) to the underspace (19). Vertical oscillations are damped by the effects of the bores (18) in conjunction with the annular gap (15) between the flange (13) and the wall (2) of the chamber (3). ADVANTAGE - Erroneous gauge indications caused e.g. by sloshing and foaming during cornering are avoided.
