An adsorption type heat pump consists of an upper and a lower rotating disc module. Each disc is divided into eight sector modules (I) and (VIII) and each sector is divided into an inner compartment (a) to (h) and a corresponding outer compartment (A) to (H). The sector modules are arranged in pairs with the members of a pair arranged opposite to each other. A thermosiphon (15) connects the inner compartments (a) to (h) of each pair. These inner compartments are filled with an adsorption material such as zeolite, which has good heat transfer properties. The disc module rotates about a horizontal axis so that each sector in turn is subjected to a cycle of heat generation - heat exchange - adsorption - heat exchange - adsorption.
