An industrial process handling raw material e.g. by a rolling mill, has a pair of drive motors (3,4) each with drive stages (1,2) coupled to the bus (6) via a control stage (9). Data can be handled either input or output via a second stage (8). The drives can be operated in a synchronised mode via a remote link (13) that connects a transmitter (11) to a receiver (12). Typically, the signals are in the form of pulses transmitted by a synchronising device. The pulses are generated at relatively high frequency and the link may be i.r. transmission. ADVANTAGE - Allows rapid sequential synchronised operation to be obtained via bus.
