PURPOSE: To advantageously perform the subject reaction effective for the synthesis of intermediate for agricultural chemicals and pharmaceuticals by using a specific catalyst having excellent activity in the allyl rearrangement reaction of primary or secondary allyl alcohols. ;CONSTITUTION: In the allyl rearrangement of primary or secondary allyl alcohols such as 5-phenyl-2-penten-l-ol, 6-phenyl-3-hexen-2-ol or 5-benzyl-2-cyclohexen-1-ol, the reaction is carried out usually in a solvent (preferably dichloromethane) in the presence of a perrhenate such as tetraammonium perrhenate and tetramethyl or pentyl ammonium perrhenate and an arylsulfonic acid such as benzenesulfonic acid, p-toluenesulfonic acid and m-nitrobenzenesulfonic acid. The reaction time is preferably limited to an extent in the case of secondary allyl alcohol since too long reaction time increases undesirable dehydration product.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
