A process for the industrial mass-production of a high-efficiency artificial bed log for cultivating high-quality "shiitake" stably in a high yield, which process comprises cultivating shiitake hyphae in a culture vessel and taking the resultant mycelial pellets from the vessel when the hyphae spread in the culture medium in such a manner that the surface of the medium becomes smooth and whitened the oxygen concentration in the vessel exceeds 6.0 %.
