A method for separation of rare earth elements from an extractant through retrograde extraction, characterised in that the extractant is mixed with a solution of sulphuric acid and ammonium sulphate or with a solution of sulphuric acid and sodium sulphate or with a solution of sulphuric acid and potassium sulphate, where for 1 part by mass of the extractant the said mixtures are applied in a quantity of 0.05 to 5 parts by mass, preferably from 0.5 to 1 parts by mass.
