The firing system has a heat-exchanger (23) in the path of the combustion gas (20,36), connected to a reduction stage (21) for nitrous oxide and preceding a dust-extractor (27). A heat-transfer circuit (24 - 28) receives heat from the exchanger, and contains one or more further heat-exchangers (16,18) receiving heat from the heat-transfer medium. Air can be used as the medium and the circuit can contain pre-heaters for feed-water and condensate. The circuit can be mounted in the path of the combustion gases from a combined steam- and gas-turbine system, or of a steam-generator using pulverised coal. Part of the heated air can be tapped off and fed to a coal-pulverising mill. USE/ADVANTAGE - Heat exchanger system for electricity generating station. The heat-exchange surface temp. gives no increased danger of deposits, or else allows their easy removal.
