The door latch is opened by pulling out the door knob(20). In pulling the door knob, a cam is driven to slide the latch(53) into the housing(6). Conversely, to close the latch, the knob is pushed, and the cam extends the latch to the closed position. The closing of the door latch may be accomplished by a coil spring(56) urging the latch towards its closed position, and the cam is then used merely for pulling the latch to its open position.
