Producing components from glass granules in which a layer of non-expanded glass granules is covered with a layer of expanded glass granules either still in their hot condition or in a cold condition. The mould is then heated to 700-900 deg. C, pref. 800-900 deg. C and then subjected to a pressure of 0.005-0.015 N/mm2 in order to compact the material by 5-15%. With plates of less than 40mm, the layer of non-expanded granules can be left out. A layer of file powder or pumice stone powder is used as separating film between the mould surfaces and the loos glass granules. Compaction time is 1-30 sec. depending ont he required surface peroperty. USE/ADVANTAGE - Making plates for use as facades in buildings or as thermal resistance layers. By varying the amount of non-expanded glass and expanded glass in the mould, closed or opened pore material is produced. A high tensile and pressure strength is obtained perpendicular to the plate surface.
