Metal articles coated with organic substances, e.g., paint are cleaned in a fluidised bed reactor (1) filled with fluidising medium (2) and contg. a screen drum (10) of perforated sheet or wire mesh, with internal spiral (13), also of perforated sheet or wire mesh. Rotation of the drum feeds the articles from the input side of the reactor to the discharge side. ADVANTAGE - Cost is reduced, sand recirculating system is not required.
