The method involves attaching a casing (11) with radially expanded peripheral contours to measurement devices (18,21,42). The casing is enclosed at its rear end by a stable pipe (16) on which a measurement head (18) is mounted. The measurement head has rods (21) protruding into the casing and with their ends fixed within it. A force measurement cell (28) slid over the stable pipe is fixed by a nut (33) on a threaded section (31) of the pipe. USE/ADVANTAGE - For measuring movements and stresses during tunnelling without adversely affecting or interrupting the tunnelling process.
