The instrument contains a liquid-filled tube coupled to a sound generator. Three electronic measurement sensors are arranged within the tube at one end. One sensor (4) is continuously in contact with the liquid inside the tube. The second (3) signals the achievement of the level on contacting the liquid and the third (2) signals when the level is exceeded. A light guide is provided within the hose and is connected at one end to a pulsed light source of the same frequency as that of the sound generator and at the other end to a display. ADVANTAGE - Eliminates eg danger of transistor failure and inability to determine whether level has been reached or exceeded.
