An x-ray image intensifier comprises a vacuum housing, a front-end fluorescent screen, electron optics and an image sensor mounted on the side of the vacuum housing which is opposite the front-end screen and inside the housing. An insulating layer is deposited on the side of the image sensor remote from the screen. This insulating layer is covered with an electroconductive layer to form an electrode. The electrode (9) is a thin metal film, or is a transparent conductive layer of indium-tin oxide, zinc oxide or tin oxide. USE/ADVANTAGE - The device is used in medical x-ray diagnosis. The device is of simple construction and has a variable electron-sensitivity which is easily controlled.
