Electrophotographic photoconductor has a substrate and photosensitive layer contg. a bis(4-di-substd. amino-phenyl)ether, thioether, ketone, or sulphone of formula (I), where R1 and R2 are each alkyl, alkoxy or halogen; R3, R4, R5 and R6 are each aryl or alkyl or R3 + R4 or R5 + R6 comprises a condensed aromatic ring; and X is -O-, -S-, -CO- or -SO2-. Specifically, R1 and R2 are H(sic); R3, R4, R5 and R6 are phenyl gps. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) is used for use in photoconductors of the laminate type, with separate charge generating and charge transport layers, or with a photosensitive monolayer (claimed). The photoconductors are also claimed. The photoconductors have high sensitivity and excellent properties, without increase in the residual potential, decrease in the charge potential and detriment to the image. (I) have excellent compatibility with various binder resins. In an example, a mixt. o 22.2 g 4,4'-difluorodiphenyl sulphide, 33.8 g diphenylamine, 45 g K2CO3, 6g Cu powder and 300 ml sulpholan was stirred for 24 h under N2 at 240 deg.C. The reaction mixt. was worked up to give bis(4-diphenylaminophenyl) thioether (IA).
