The invention relates to an optical submarine cable with a cable core which consists of an inner sheath having at least one optical fibre (LWL) guided therein, and with an armoured sheath, which surrounds the cable core with radial play and contains a pressure-proof metal layer formed from at least three segmental elements and a stranded layer, made from stranding wires, surrounding said layer. The cable core is protected against damage owing to excessive flexural stress because of the fact that the inner sheath consists of a seam-welded metal tube (1), which is folded about the LWLs and in which the LWLs (3) are guided in a radially movable fashion, that the gap (3) between the inner sheath (1) and the pressure-proof metal layer (5) is free of filler, and in that the segmental elements (5) bear against one another in a slidable fashion.
