Reliability of fiber gratings and optical circulators was investigated by 5,000 hour life-test. Failure rate for the fiber gatings and optical circulators were estimated to be 0.032 FITs, and 0.034 FITs, respectively. From the life-tests and proof tests, they are found to be reliable enough for undersea applications.
