PURPOSE:To transmit a digital data with a lower error rate than that of an existing compact disc by utilizing a compact disc for digital data recording. CONSTITUTION:A demultiplexer 18 controls whether a reproduced disc is a compact disc for stereo music signal or a digital data disc for digital data storage and a system controller 14 switches an output path. As an example, whether a disc is for stereo music signal or for digital data storage is identified by using a control bit of a Q-channel of a sub-coding signal recorded on a lead-in track of the disc 1. A control signal representing the result of discrimination of the kind of the disc is fed to a RAM controller 15 together with the switching of the output path and additive error correction is applied to the reproduced output of the disc for digital data storage.
