ABSTRACTAn infant restraint device has a generally rigid shellassembly for receiving an infant, the shell assembly having alower shell portion and an upper shell portion. The lower shellportion is pivotally coupled to the upper shell portion to permitthe shell assembly to be alternately positioned in a substantiallyplanar configuration and in an angled configuration. The couplingmeans comprises locking means for selectively locking the shellassembly in either the planar configuration or the angled con-figuration. The lower shell portion includes a base portion tosupport the device on a vehicle seat.
