DEPLETED OXYGEN GAS STRIPPING AND CARBON ADSORPTION BTEX ABATEMENT SYSTEM

An apparatus (10) and process for removing volatile organic compounds from a wastewater stream (11) by flowing wastewater stream (11) over a packing material in a stripper (15) and counterflowing through the packing material a depleted oxygen gas stream (17) to strip the volatile organic compounds from the wastewater. The stripped effluent gas (18) is passed through adsorbents in adsorbent beds (30A, 30B, 23) to remove the volatile organic compounds and create a depleted oxygen stripping gas (31), which is used as a makeup stripping gas for stripper (15). Adsorbent beds (30A, 30B) are regenerated with reverse flow of steam.
