PROCESS FOR EXTRACTING LIPIDS WITH A HIGH PROPORTION OF LONG CHAIN, HIGHLY UNSATURATED FATTY ACIDS

A process is disclosed for extracting lipids with a high proportion of long chain, highly unsaturated fatty acids (LCP) with 20 to 22 C atoms from a raw material of animal or vegetable origin. Monocellular algae (microalgae), macroalgae from the family of the brown, red and green algae and/or residues from the alginate or carragheenin extraction with a water content equal to or less than 50 % wt. and a grain size equal to or less than 50 mm are used. For the extraction an organic solvent or a condensed gas are used. Also prepared is a lipid extract having a high proportion of w6-LCP and w3-LCP, in particular a content of at least 5 % by weight arachidonic acid and/or at least 3 % by weight docosahexaenoic acid.
