A method for electrical discharge finish-machining on wire cutting machines and an electrical discharge cutting apparatus permit a surface quality of better than Ra = 0.1 mu m in a workshop environment. The workpiece (2), rough-cut at least once, is used as a geometric reference for further finish cuts. Electrical gap parameters and the spark distribution over the height of the workpiece are measured. By a precision servo movement carried out transversely to the cutting direction, the gap width is optimally regulated right into the submicrometer range. This enables the finest surfaces to be produced on a machine of normal accuracy. IMAGE
