Vehicle automatic gearbox selector - has conventional arrangement of manual gears and electronic control unit for gear changing in DRIVE position
The automatic gearbox for a car has an electronic control (60) for the Drive position of the selector, with a conventional manual override for other gears. The manual gears are combined with the Drive position in the conventional 1-2-3-D-N-R-P arrangement. The selector is locked when in the Park, Neutral and Drive Positions by means of a solenoid-operated plunger (58). When Drive is selected, the automatic gear changing is undertaken by the electronic control unit (60) with inputs from sensors of load demand, engine speed, vehicle speed and engine temperature. ADVANTAGE - Inexpensive to manufacture.
