The computer status protection method provides a secure area (35) with a permanent memory, e.g. a magnetic disc divided into partitions (P5,P6) with block addresses. A predetermined first block (18) is read from the permanent memory contg. a partition table (20). The table contains a type field (21a,21b) and the addresses (22a,22b) of the partition (P5,P6) characterised by the type field. The entry of a predetermined type (5) in the partition table is searched and the address (22b) is removed from the data partition (P5) whose first block is a parameter block (BPB). This address is used as a possible address in the secure area (35). The first block of the secure area is read, the block contg. a marking (36) and the size of the secure area. ADVANTAGE - Protects memory from erroneous use.
