PURPOSE:To produce a purified strain of algae belonging to the genus Botryococcus in a short period according to simple operations. CONSTITUTION:This method for producing a purified strain of algae belonging to the genus Botryococcus is to suspend a mixture of the algae belonging to the genus Botryococcus with a microorganism other than the algae in an aqueous solution containing hypochlorous acid or its salt, coat a platy culture medium with the resultant mixture, carry out the culturing, form a colony of the algae and collect the purified strain belonging to the genus Botryococcus from the platy culture medium under observation with a stereoscopic microscope.
