PURPOSE:To detect even the foreign matter embedded in powder by subjecting the prescribed point of a container to image pickup with one unit of TV camera, maintaining inspection accuracy constant and agitating the powder by inclination and rotation of the container. CONSTITUTION:The transparent container 1 imposed on a receiving base 4 is intermittently fed together with the receiving base 4 to the right and is rotated around the central axis by a belt 7. The container 1 inclines by a prescribed angle beta when the base of the receiving base 4 is maintained horizontal. The container 1 is rotated at a high speed in the inclined state and, therefore, the powder in the container is agitated approximately uniformly and the foreign matter is eventually exposed at a relatively high probability on the powder surface. Even the foreign matter embedded in the powder is thus detected. The inspection is made by picking up the image with one unit of the TV camera and utilizing the signal thereof and, therefore, the specified accuracy is maintained.
