PORPHYRAN-DEGRADATIVE ENZYME, NEOAGAROOLIGOSACCHARIDE AND THEIR PRODUCTION

PURPOSE: To provide an enzyme having ability to decompose porphyran, a kind of polysaccharide found in seaweeds which belong to laver family and a method for producing the enzyme, and to provide new neoagarooligosaccharides and a method for producing the neoagarooligosaccharides using this enzyme. ;CONSTITUTION: The objective porphyran-degradative enzyme having the following physicochemical characteristics: (1) action: hydrolyzing porphyran to produce neoagarooligosaccharides mainly 6 and 8 in degree of polymerization and (2) substrate specificity: giving high specificity to porphyran but low specificity to the polysaccharides found in red algae and brown algae other than laver family. This enzyme can be obtained by culturing the Pseudomonas microbes having ability to decompose porphyran and by taking the aimed enzyme from the cultured product. The other objective neoagarooligosaccharide mainly 6 and 8 in degree of polymerization can be obtained by making the above enzyme act on porphyran.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
