PURPOSE: To carry out an accurate foil thickness measuring simply and in a short time, even though a work (a foil) has an uneven surface or wrinkles, by installing a bottom plate in which a liquid pouring port is formed on the side surface, and, a liquid spit hole is formed almost at the center, at the lower side of a foil thickness measuring instrument main body, so as to cover the whole body of the measuring member. ;CONSTITUTION: On a work (a foil) 27 loaded on a measuring board 33, an ultrasonic thickness measuring device 21 is loaded, a specific pressure of liquid 29 is fed to a measuring member 26 from a pouring port 30 and sprayed from a spit hole 32, the membrane of the liquid 29 is formed between the bottom surface of a bottom plate 23 and the work 27, and the distance between the bottom surface and the work 27 is maintained constant. And plural small holes are formed on the measuring board 33, and by adhering the work 27 to the measuring board 33 by sucking the work by a vacuum pump in the measuring time, the work 27 is extended to be flat by the function of the poured liquid 29, even though the work 27 has an uneven surface or wrinkles. In this case, it is perferable to make the bottom surface of the bottom plate 23 in a curved surface corresponding to the peripheral surface of a cylindrical rotary cathode, and to make the distance between both members constant.
