SEED MUCILAGE, PRODUCTION THEREOF, FOOD STOCK CONTAINING THE SAME AND FOOD PRODUCT

PURPOSE: To obtain seed mucilage for adding foodstuffs by treating seeds of Artemisia plants under specific conditions, thus having high water absorption, moisture retention and threading properties without toxicity. ;CONSTITUTION: Seeds of Artemisia plant is allowed to stand in cold water to swell the seed skin, then placed in a homogenizer equipped with rotary blades and the mucilage product is allowed to stick to the blades, while the main parts of the seeds are allowed to sink to the bottom. The mucilage product is freeze-dried or the water is replaced with an organic solvent such as hexane and air-dried to give the seed mucilage product for adding to food products.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
