PORPHYRIN/MANGANESE COMPLEX AND ANION SENSITIVE MEMBRANE

PURPOSE: To obtain a new porphyrin/manganese complex suitable for an anion sensitive membrane, coloring in dark green, capable of accurately measuring a chloride ion concentration, having excellent solubility in a matrix membrane. ;CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I or formula II [R¹ and R² each is H or a lower alkyl; R³ is H or a (substituted) aryl; X is an atomic group to form a halide ion or a stable anion; Y is a 1-12C bifunctional hydrocarbon; Z is a monofunctional hydrophobic organic group containing two or three straight-chain hydrophobic group] such as a compound of formula III. The compound of formula I or formula II, for example, is obtained by reacting p-hydroxybenzaldehyde with benzaldehyde and a pyrrole to give 5-p- hydroxyphenyl-10,15,20-triphenylporphyrin, reacting this compound with 1,3- didodecyl-2-(4-bromobutyl)glycerol and reacting the reaction product with manganese dioxide.
