RECOVERY OF COMMERCIALLY VALUABLE PRODUCTS FROM SCRAP TIRES

Commercially valuable chemicals areseparated from tire-derived pyrolytic oils bysubjecting the pyrolytic oils to a fractional distil-lation at a temperature of up to about 204°C underatmospheric pressure to isolate at least one commer-cially valuable chemical selected from the groupconsisting of paraffins, naphthenes, olefins andaromatics. Particularly valuable chemicals which canbe separated from tire-derived pyrolytic oils arebenzene, toluene, xylene, styrene and dl-limonene.The distillation fraction boiling above 204°C can beused as an extension oil in the manufacture ofvarious rubber and plastic parts. Also disclosed isan improved process for producing carbon black byvacuum pyrolysis of used rubber tires.
