Process for the recovery of fluorinated carboxylic acids

Fluorinated carboxylic acids can be recovered from materials containing such acids by, if required, liberating the carboxylic acids with sufficiently strong acids, esterifying the acids which have been liberated, and removing the esters by distillation. It is advantageous to hydrolyse the esters immediately with aqueous ammonia solution to give the corresponding ammonium salts.
