The invention relates to an X-ray diagnostic apparatus having an X-ray source (1), an imaging surface (6) representing the distribution of intensity of the X radiation that can be directed through a test object (4), an optical imaging device for imaging the total image area (10) of the imaging surface (6) on the input surface of a first image sensor (11), a device (12) for visual representation of the total image area (10), and means for enlarged visual representation of a selectable sector (20) of the total image area. Greatly enlarged, and yet detailed sector images can be generated due to the fact that the selectable sector (20) of the total image area is directed onto a second image sensor (16) which with respect to the unit surface area of the total image area discriminates a substantially higher number of pixels.
