In order to avoid having to produce bank cards equipped with a microprocessor, whose cost although minimal remains of too high an order, wallet cards are produced comprising only memory areas. They then comprise four memory areas, one area (3) relating to the identity of the holder, or of the card, one area (6) relating to the financial balance, a third area (5) relating to a transaction counter. This transaction counter counts the number of financial operations carried out with the card. A fourth area (4) comprises a certificate. This certificate is processed, in each reader (2) which carries out a transaction with the card, with a DES algorithm. The value of this certificate is a function, according to an algorithm which is common to all the readers, of the identity, of the contents of the transaction counter, and of the balance.
