Device for quickly identifying files in any storage system, doing away with the need for filing and refiling and, by means of its code system, giving it a degree of invulnerability against the inquisitive. It comprises an identification strip 1 attached to the container of documents dealing with a particular subject. It comprises a series of marks: the beginning marker and aligning side 2, the storage unit character 3, a series of numbered spaces 5 defined by lines 4, three or more determining marks 6 positioned in the numbered spaces 5, and special marks 7. Two rows of perforations 8 parallel to the long sides of the strip enable the marks to be positioned accurately.
