The present invention relates to a locking device for a door or window comprising a stationary element (6) and a movable element (7), this locking device taking up position on the inside face of the opening panel and being inserted on the square drive for manipulating an operating handle. Thus, its fixed element and its movable element exhibit, on the one hand, a central orifice (18) acting as passage for the said manipulation square drive, as well as openings (24, 25) situated on the axis of displacement of the movable element and through which the fastening members, such as screws or the like, are inserted. In fact, this locking device is characterised in that in line with the openings (24, 25) of the movable element (7) and acting as passage for these fastening members (26, 27) are formed elastic means (34) capable of immobilising this moving element (7) inside the fixed element (6), this being in the blocked and unblocked position of the manipulating square drive (5).
