The appts. for heat treatment in partic. of surfaces of workpieces with rotational symmetry, includes a heat source and a radiation pyrometer. The latter serves for determining the temp. of the workpiece, and is coupled to a light guide (30) whose other extremity (32) is positioned in the vicinity of the outer surface of the workpiece subjected to heat treatment. The light guide extremity (32) receiving radiation from the workpiece surface is kept free from dirt by means of an air or gas stream.
