The method involves utilizing a slotted nozzle (5) with a slot opening (12) that is arranged perpendicular to a center plane of the nozzle, and moving a housing (1) and a rotation symmetric component (3), which has a surface (4) to be monitored, relative to each other. The opening is positioned at a marginal operating distance to the surface of the component. The surface is blown by an air jet in a laminar manner, and simultaneously a momentary testing of irregularities in topography of the surface at the component is performed using a number of microphones (42). An independent claim is also included for a device for detecting irregularities in topography of surfaces on components.
