A tensioned safety seat belt extension with anti- rucking mechanism

A belt guide is connected to a support bolt by a pair of elastic members (a) each wound around the bolt and having free ends which pass through apertures in the belt guide and are knotted. The first elastic member is wound three times around the bolt, whereas the second elastic member is only wound twice therearound. This assembly is housed in a two-part cover as shown to contain the movements of the assembly. The cover is pivotally mounted on the bolt. Heavy loading on the belt extends the elastic members and draws the belt guide away from the support bolt. Hook formations at the sides of the belt guide may then engage the lower edge of the cover which is malleable and changes shape under load.
