PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out assist control suitable for rotating speed of an electric assist motor on an electric assist steering system. ;SOLUTION: An electric assist steering system 10 has a steering torque sensor 110 and an electric assist variable reluctance motor 26 operatively connected to a steering member 20. A motor control signal is provided for control of an assist motor in correspondence with a value of a torque signal. A motor speed sensor 200 detects speed of a power assist motor, and a vehicle speed sensor 119 detects vehicle speed. Control circuits 220, 210, 142 correct the motor control signal in correspondence with the detected motor speed and the detected vehicle speed signal and provide non-linear damping of a motor for vehicle yaw rate control.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
