PURPOSE: To safely and positively stop an automobile even on a road surface having a very low coefficient of friction, on which the car cannot be effectively braked even by what is called ABS system. ;CONSTITUTION: When an electronic control device 3 judges that the slipped state of automobile wheels detected by a detecting means such as a jaw rate sensor 1 or a steering angle sensor 2 is untolerably large, the control device 3 starts an emergency braking device (a second braking means 6). That is, the control device 3 operates a hydraulic changeover valve 4 to switchingly supply the pressurized oil from a master cylinder or other oil-pressure generating devices to a hydraulic cylinder 6b. Thus, a friction material 6a is movedly operated, and the friction material 6a is directly engaged with the road surface to restrain the car on the road surface to positively stop the car at this position. At the same time, since a warning means 5 such as a klaxon, is energized, by the control device 3, to give an alarm that the surrounding persons, vehicles, etc., should not be close to the car, accidents due to contact can also be prevented.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
