PURPOSE: To automatically read the automobile number of the number plate of automobile to be inspected and to attain power saving in the inspection line of automobile inspection factory and certainty for data input. ;CONSTITUTION: This device consists of a traveling position detecting means 6 provided at the entry of the inspection line of an automobile inspection factory, etc., a plate position specifying means 14 which specifies the mounting position of the number plate of an automobile 7 to be inspected, a camera revolving/zooming means 22 which moves a camera toward a specified position in all directions and zooms up the camera, a character reading means 26 which reads the character information on the number plate zoomed up by the camera revolving/zooming means 22, and a printer 34 which automatically prints out the number plate information read by the character reading means 26 on a maintenance recording ledger.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
