PURPOSE:To display accurate binary numbers even in a display status in which the degree of freedom is high by comparing the magnitudes of a series of unit graphics consecutively, and displaying binary numbers depending on the result of the comparison. CONSTITUTION:The titled reader is provided with paper on which plural pieces of approximately similar unit graphics are disposed in the order ones precede and the others follow, a device to optically scan said paper to output the image data of the series of graphics, a buffer memory 2 to separate unit image data from the image data in the order of the disposition of the graphics, a measurement circuit 4 to measure the length or area of every unit image data, and a comparator circuit 6 that compares the preceding unit measurement value with the following unit measurement value supplied from the circuit 4 and outputs a binary number depending on the magnitude or the evenness/unevenness resulted from said comparison. Since the largeness in shape is compared between the unit graphics with each other relatively, accurate binarization can be easily executed freely from back noises or the conditions of accuracy such as the display, the printing, the accuracy of the writing of the unit graphics.
