PURPOSE:To improve a surface quality and to constrain the edge wrinkle of the plate width end by forming the barrel length of an intermediate roll larger than the maximum plate width of a rolled stock and providing a bending device at the respective roll ends of upper and lower work rolls and the intermediate roll. CONSTITUTION:In a five-high rolling mill equipped with an intermediate roll 5, the barrel length of the intermediate roll 5 is formed larger than the maxi mum plate width of a rolled stock, 1st roll bending device 10, 11 and 12 are provided at the respective roll ends of upper and lower work rolls 1, 2 and a 2nd roll bending device 13 is provided at the roll end of the intermediate roll 5. Since the roll bending action is effected on the intermediate roll 5 over its roll whole body thereby, the rolled stock is adjustable at its plate thickness as well over it whole plate width. Consequently, the surface quality of the rolled stock can be improved because of its multiple shape control capacity being excellent, the unrolling part of the plate width end vicinity is reduced and the generation of the edge wrinkle can be constrained.
