How to generate a diffusion flame in the pilot section and within the gas turbine power plant

PURPOSE: To reduce a diffusion flame in a pilot portion of each combustor by reducing the amount of inflow of a natural gas fuel to the pilot portion up to the time flaming out of the diffusion flame happens, and reinjecting the natural gas fuel into the pilot portion, and supplying intake air into a recirculation area. ;CONSTITUTION: A natural gas fuel flow through a nozzle 118 is reduced until flaming-out in a pilot portion 112 happens and a diffusion flame in the nozzle 118 disappears. After the diffusion flame disappears in the pilot portion 112, inflow of a natural gas fuel into the pilot portion 112 through the nozzle 118 is increased, and premixing mode operation is started. The natural gas fuel is mixed with suction air without combustion in a recirculation area 124 owing to no diffusion flame. A natural gas mixture emanating from the pilot portion 112 combusts in a dilute state to produce a diffusion flame and hence NOx emission is low in concentration.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
