PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing a powdery or granular functional food from the seed nuclei a sarcocarp of pickled umes (Japanese apricot) as raw materials, mainly having a sterilizing action and an intestinal state- normalizing action, contributing to the development of physical strength, such as fatigue recovery, physical strength improvement and aging prevention, and having various disease-curing performances due to the characteristic detoxication and sterilization actions, and further to provide the powdery or granular func tional food obtained by the production method. ;CONSTITUTION: A method for producing the functional food from the seed nuclei and sarcocarp of pickled umes comprises kneading the sarcocarp 3 the salt-reduced pickled umes 2 and the seed nuclei 4 contained in the seed shells 5, diluting the kneaded product with a proper amount of a rice vinegar 6, drying the diluted viscous solution, and subsequently processing the dried product into a powdery product 7 or a granular product 8.
