PURPOSE:To obtain a tranquilizing food and drink, containing vegetable extracts having physiological activity, capable of effectively, safely and mildly relieving stress by ingestion and excellent in tastiness. CONSTITUTION:An ataractic food and drink containing lavender extract and/or other vegetable extracts selected from the group consisting of valerian extract, extract of Gynostemma pentaphyllum Makino, linden extract, jujube extract, calendula extract, extract of Sasa albo-marginata, ginseng extract and gamma- aminobutyric acid-containing extracts in amounts within the range of 0.4-1.0% lavender extract and 0.5-2.0% other vegetable extracts. If the food and drink are a solid food, ingestion can be preferably and lightly carried out at any time and place. In the case of especially gum, synergistic action with tranquiliz ing effects produced by the act of chewing gum itself is exhibited and most preferred.
