PURPOSE:To provide a nursery bed optimal for rice plants, lawns, etc., utilizing great restoring properties by compressing peat-moss, coconut shell peat, coconut peat, etc., under a high pressure. CONSTITUTION:This lightweight nursery bed for rearing seedlings is obtained by adding a small amount of a thickener such as polyethylene oxide, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, ammonium carboxymethyl cellulose or sodium alginate to peat-moss, coconut shell peat, coconut peat, etc., further adding a small amount of a fertilizer and an adequate amount of sulfuric acid thereto, carrying out the germination hastening and water and fertilizer holding treatments and regulating the volume to the minimum. Furthermore, this nursery bed is prepared by pulverizing the peat moss, coconut shell peat, coconut peat, etc., to some extent so as to adapt to a cold and a warm districts, compressing the pulverized peat-moss, etc., under a high pressure or contact bonding tacky paper thereto so as to reinforce the nursery bed and save the frequency of irrigation.
