PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new gene coding a platelet production-stimulating factor containing a specific amino acid sequence and having a megakaryocyte colony-stimulating factor activity and a megakaryocyte-multiplying factor activity and giving an agent for treating diseases accompanied by the decrease in the platelets and the lowering in the functions of the platelets, etc. ;CONSTITUTION: This new DNA codes a protein comprising a platelet production- stimulating factor having an amino acid sequence containing an amino acid sequence of the formula, and is useful for producing the protein which has a megakaryocyte colony-stimulating factor activity and a megakaryocyte multiplying factor activity acting on the megakaryocyte producing the platelets and which is useful as an agent for treating diseases accompanied by the decrease in the platelets and the lowering in the functions of the platelets, etc. The DNA is obtained by extracting a mRNA from cells, etc., producing the platelet production-stimulating factor, synthesizing a cDNA in the presence of the extracted mRNA as a template, and subsequently cloning the cDNA in the presence of a primer synthesized under the base sequence of a human ML gene by a PCR method.
