PURPOSE: To obtain C.I. Reactive Blue 19 being a blue reactive dye by reacting bromoamic acid with 3-(sulfatoethylsulfonyl)aniline (hereinbelow abbreviated as SESA) in the presence of elemental copper and a phosphate buffer. ;CONSTITUTION: A bromoamic acid represented by formula I is reacted with an SESA represented by formula II (wherein X is O or S), desirably, at a pH of 7 or below, especially, a pH of 6.0-6.8 in the presence of a catalyst system being elemental copper (used in an amount of 4-16 wt.%) and a buffer system being a phosphate buffer (monosodium phosphate/disodium phosphate mixture) (used in an amount of 5-15 wt.% based on the bromamic acid). The reaction temperature is 60-95°C, especially, 70-90°C. The obtained C.I. Reactive Blue 19 is represented by formula III (wherein Z is -CH2=CH2-OSO3M, -CH=CH2 or -CH2CH2-SSO3M; and M is H or an alkali metal). This is one of important reactive dyes which dye textiles in clearly blue.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
